Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1977
What is your primary product or service?
Educational programs for children, summer camp, birthday parties, mommy and me classes, and after-school programs
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
We are a family business. When Mr. and Mrs. Benner moved here they were both teachers but had 3 (soon to be 4) small children, so Mrs. Benner was home with the kids. Affording the farm was not easy, and the Benner's quickly learned about farming as a way to survive, living off the farm almost entirely in the early years. The business evolved from the fact that Mrs. Benner was a teacher and many of her friends were as well, so as the farm grew, friends started asking about bringing their students to visit. In the early days it was just a few classes here and there, but today there are literally thousands off school children who come visit in the spring and fall.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are unique because we are a true, working family farm. Visiting here is not like a trip to a petting zoo. The beauty of our farm is it's history and educational focus, people enjoy visiting the animals, but also leave here having learned something about small farms.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One location. No plans to expand.
